Week 4 games of the EPL

Man City setting the pace, Arsenal with  under par performances,
Chelsea huffing and puffing, Man United not clinical in the final third
despite high possessions, under performing Liverpool, Tottenham can't win a game, and Southampton yet to impress. This has been the story of last season top seven teams in the EPL this season.
Let's take a look at the results of week 4 games.
Newcastle 0-1 Arsenal
Tottenham 0-0 Everton
Liverpool 0-3 West Ham United
Chelsea 1-2 Crystal Palace
Man City 2-0 Watford
Norwich 0-3 Southampton
Swansea City 2-1 Man United
Man United, Chelsea and Liverpool all failed to get a single point in
their games, with Man United having -1 as goal difference, Chelsea also
have -1, while Liverpool have -3, making Liverpool our biggest loser
for the week.
Arsenal, Southampton and the consistent Man City recorded maximum points. Southampton has  3 goal difference, with 1 and 2 goals more than Man City and Arsenal respectively, making Southampton the biggest winner for the week.
Can Southampton continue to impress? Can we also say that we already know where this trophy is going to by May?

The UEFA Champions League is back

Welcome to the 2015/2016 UEFA Champions League. As we all know, thisis the biggest club football competition in the world, where the bestclubs in the leagues meet to compete for the prestigious trophy.
Let's take a good look at the draws to see the teams that could likely
qualify from them.
GROUP A
PSG
REAL MADRID
SHAKTAR DONETSK
MALMO

GROUP B

MAN UNITED
CSKA MOSCOW
WOLFSBURG

GROUP C
BENFICA
ATLETICO MADRID
GALATASARAY
ASTANA

GROUP D
JUVENTUS
MAN CITY
SEVILLA
BORUSSIA BONCHENGLADBACH

GROUP E
BARCELONA
BAYER LEVERKUSEN
ROMA
BATO BORISOV

BAYERN MUNCHEN
ARSENAL
OLYMPIAKOS
DINAMO ZAGREB

DYNAMO KIEV
MACCABI TEL-AVIV

GROUP H
ZENIT
VALENCIA
LYON
GENT
PSG and Real Madrid would compete to top Group A. PSG look more settled than Real and with Di Maria now part of that team, I see them finishing ahead of Real. I tip PSG to finish 1st of Group A with
Madrid coming 2nd. Man Utd to top Group B is a no-brainer. The
experience of CSKA Moscow and a coordinated Wolfsburg side would give Man Utd a run for their money. If De Bruyne depart Wolfsburg, then
CSKA Moscow will nick the 2nd position.
Atletico Madrid should find Group C easy considering the kind of edge
they have over the rest of the teams in the group. I would lean
towards Benfica to finish 2nd ahead of Galatasaray. Group D is the
group of death, but my take on this one might surprise many. This is
the opportunity for Man City to step up for once. I feel City should
finish 1st and Sevilla 2nd. Juventus have sold some key players
without like-for-like replacement.
Barcelona to top Group E easily and Roma to finish 2nd with Leverkusen
giving them a scare. Bayern Munich should do enough to top Group F
with Arsenal coming 2nd. Chelsea has a relatively easy team to compete with, making them the run away winner in Group G, and Porto coming a distant 2nd. Group H is a balance group, which is there for the taking by anyone. Valencia 1st and Lyon 2nd. Congratulations to Messi for winning the best player in Europe.

Dieting and fitness

Dieting is the practise of eating food in a regulated and supervised manner to increase, maintain or decrease body weight. There are different categories of diet and they includes; low-fat diet, low-carbohydrate diet, low-calorie diet, very low-calorie diet, detox diet and religious diet.
Using a very low-calorie meal plan for months perpetually can actually do more harm than good. Dieting creates a stressful environment for your body. Your cortisol level could stay high for an extended period when you add in exercise. Cortisol is a stress hormone and one of its function is to increase blood sugar. It is important to take a break from your diet to allow your body to recover from the stress.
Maintaining a healthy weight can be tough, losing weight can be even tougher. If you eat more calories than you burn, you gain weight, and if you eat fewer calories than you burn, you lose weight. This sounds easy but why is losing weight so hard?
Weight loss is not a linear event over time. When you lose weight, you are losing water and lean tissue as well as fat, your metabolism slows down and your body changes in other ways. So in order to continue shedding weight each week, you’ll need to continue cutting calories.
Many of us always eat simply to satisfy hunger. We also turn to food for comfort or to relieve stress which can derail any weight loss effort before they begin. Extreme diets may promise rapid results but they are more likely to leave you feeling cranky, starving and losing more cash than weight. The good news is that: by making smarter choices everyday, adopting healthy lifestyle changes and developing new eating habits, you’ll not only lose weight and be able to keep it off, but also improve your outlook, mood and have more energy.
To get started with healthy weight loss, you need to:
Think about lifestyle changes, not short term diet- various popular diets can help jump start your weight loss, but permanent lifestyle changes and food choices are what will work in the long run.
Drink water because they help to manage your appetite. Substituting water for sugary juices can make a major dent in your daily calorie count.
Don’t skip breakfast. Don’t give excuses about not having time before work. Whole grain cereal like oat is one of the best breakfast meal for dieters.
Find a cheering solution- seek out social support from either friends, families or support group to get the encouragement you need. Social support means a lot.
Set goals to keep you motivated- short term goals usually don’t work. When frustration and temptation strike, concentrate on the many benefit you will reap from being leaner and healthier. Losing weight is for good health.
Use tool that will help you track your progress- you can create your own food log, keep the food log, weigh yourself regularly and keep the record of each pound you lose. By keeping all this record, you’ll see the results which will help you stay motivated.
1 pound= 0.4535kg
1kg= 2.2046pounds(Lbs)
Put a stop to emotional eating- if you eat when you are stressed, find healthier ways to calm yourself by doing exercise, medication or soaking in a hot bath. If you eat while you are feeling low on energy, try walking around, listening to energizing music or taking a short nap. If you eat when you are lonely or bored, reach out to others instead of reaching out to your refrigerator. You can put a call through to a friend who can make you laugh.
It is always tempting to look for a short cut but they only set you up for failure because you will be deprived of some nutrients by cutting out entire group of foods which is simply unhealthy. Restricting certain foods or relying on ready-made meals might work in the short term but they don’t include a plan for maintaining your weight so the pounds quickly come back. When you drastically restrict your food intake, your metabolism will temporarily slow down and once you start eating normally, you’ll gain weight until your metabolism bounce back. Moderation is key.
It’s too easy to mindlessly overeat. Pay attention to what you eat, choose foods that are both nourishing and enjoyable and eat slowly.
When it comes to fitness, consistency is the key and not perfection.

Week 3 games of the EPL

It was a disappointing weekend for most football lovers, as most games
ended in draws. Man United kick started proceedings at Old Trafford, where they hosted Newcastle United. Man United are still lacking the cutting edge to prosecute games, the final third is not delivering the goods - and  questions are still being asked, whether Wayne Rooney is good
enough to lead the attack. Man United 0 - 0 Newcastle.
Watford held Southampton to a goalless draw, making sure they wait for their first win of the new season. Watford 0 - 0 Southampton. The only difference between Leicester City vs Tottenham's game and that of Southampton, was that there were goals, though it also finished in a draw. Tottenham has also not hit the ground running, there has been speculations about them getting the services of Saido Berahino, to ease the pressure of Kane. Leicester 1 - 1 Tottenham.
West Bromwich Albion gave Chelsea a huge scare when they came
visiting. Though captain John Terry received his marching orders after
a foul, Chelsea were still able to register their first win of the
season - thanks to Pedro.
Man City can't stop winning or should i say opposition can't help but taste defeat. Everton couldn't help their situation, when they were
taken to the cleaners by this rampant City side. Though Everton gave a good account of themselves, but couldn't stop Kolarov and Nasri from scoring.
Arsenal vs Liverpool was the biggest of the fixtures. Both teams failed to find the back of the net, after an end to end stuff.
There is no prize for guessing the biggest winner. The ever consistent
Man City remain on top with 3 points and  2 goals difference, while
Man United is the biggest loser for this weekend, considering their
opposition and home advantage.
Can Man City run away with the league this season?

World Humanitarian Day 2015: Inspiring the world's humanity

Today is World Humanitarian Day with the theme Inspiring the world’s humanity. The theme calls on us to join any of the world’s humanitarian organisations and become an active messenger of humanity.
Humanity is saving human lives and alleviating suffering wherever it is found. It is rendering helping hand to improve the welfare and happiness of people. It is also moral of kindness extended to all human beings.
World Humanitarian Day is a time to recognize those who face danger and adversity in order to help them. It is also an opportunity to celebrate the spirit that inspires humanitarian work around the globe.
More than 100 million women, men and children need life. In a world that is digitally connected, each of us has the power and responsibility to inspire our fellow human beings to help others and create a more humane world.
Why are there so many people in need? Who will help them? Will you?
War, poverty, corrupt government, civil unrest etc. are the reasons for great number of people in need. For these reasons the people need to find protection and basic need to survive. People are dying everyday from hunger and dehydration due to lack of humanitarian assistance. These people are worthy and similar as any other person is, in blood and function.
People who have basic humanitarian need suffer from pressure to fit and greed yet they know not about the reality of the other side of the story that does not have much. There are some people who worry all about themselves and their quest to gain popularity in their community, while on the other hand, people fight to have endurance and hope for the will to live. Some who have enough basic needs are disturbed about there failure and question why everything goes wrong for them in their pursuit for happiness and riches while others wonder about surviving the next day and are happy with the little things they are given.
There is need for more action, sympathy and awareness amongst the global community. Humanitarian assistance needs to be communicated the more, so more people have the ability to give and respond to crisis.
Identify people with severe problems earlier and manage them better. Hungry people must be fed, sick people must be nursed, mentally and physically handicapped must be helped, orphan must be sheltered and maladjusted must be assisted. Together we can and must build a more humane world with a stronger commitment to life saving humanitarian action.
Donating your social media feeds for just one day can promote humanitarian action and help to give a voice to the voiceless by sharing their stories of crisis, hope and resilience.
Help somebody today. Into one heart alone may fall your song of cheer. Brighten the corner where you are.

Know your skin type and take proper care of it

It is good to know your skin type before selecting the most appropriate products for your skin care regimen. Skin types vary depending upon a combination of factors. They includes:
Skin water content which affects your skin’s comfort and elasticity.
Skin oil content which affects your skin’s softness and nutrition.
Level of sensitivity which affects skin’s tolerance to certain substance.
Hormones, skin disorders, diet, stress, medication, genetic predisposition, climate, skin care routine and prolonged sun exposure influences your skin type.
Available skin types are normal, oily, dry, sensitive and combination.
For normal skin types, there is barely visible pores, no severe sensitivity, no or few imperfections and the right amount of water and oil. It is regarded as the best skin type. If truly you have normal skin, you don't need to do as much to maintain it as those who have other skin types. But then, skin type does not remain static, it will change based on several factors including age, hormonal shifts, stress and how much sun damage you accumulate over the years. The best way to care for normal skin is to make sure you are using gentle and effective products whose texture work with your skin type. Gentle water soluble cleanser, lotions loaded with antioxidants and skin repairing ingredients can help prevent normal skin from wrinkles.
For dry skin types, it can be uncomfortable and unattractive. The skin produce almost invisible pores, less elasticity, dull and rough complexion with red patches. When exposed to drying factors, skin can flake, crack, peel or become itchy, irritated or inflamed. To care for dry skin; take shorter bath with warm water, cleanse gently, drink plenty of water, eat omega-3 foods like fish, flax, walnuts and safflower oil, moisturize while skin is moist. Before you get a moisturizer, check out for ingredients that helps hold water and soothe dry skin e.g. ceramides and hyaluronic acids, also those that draw water to the skin and retain it there e.g. dimethicone and glycerine. Lanolin, mineral oil and petroleum jelly are also good for dry skin. For itchy inflamed skin, apply a cool compressed or hydrocortisone cream.
For combination skin types, the skin is dry or normal in some areas and oily in other areas. For example t-zone. T-zone is the nose, forehead and chin area. It can produce overly dilated pores, blackheads and shiny skin. Sensitive skin results from genetic or hormonal factors that can cause an imbalance in how much and where oils are produced.
For sensitive skin types, the skin possesses almost the same characteristics with dry skin. To take care of sensitive skin, avoid products that contain sodium lauryl sulphate and ammonium lauyl sulphate, don’t use too much anti-aging ingredients like retinoids and alpha hydroxyl acids (AHA), look for product that are labelled hypoallergenic, don’t scrub your skin harshly while showering, skip perfumed products if you suspect your skin react to them, keep a food log because sometimes a certain food ingredient can cause a sensitive skin to flare up, limit your alcohol intake if you do take alcohol, you can get soaps made especially for sensitive and if all else fails, try using baby products.
Lastly, oily skin which is more common in youths is the most common skin type for acne. This occur when the glands in the skin secrete too much oil. Oil on our skin helps protect it and fight signs of aging. Many people suffer from an excess of oil which produced enlarged pores, shiny and thick complexion, blackheads, spots and other blemishes. It can be caused and worsened by stress, puberty and exposure to heat..
To fight excess oil on your face; wash your skin no more than twice a day with warm water. Use a gentle facial cleanser that contain either benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, glycolic acid or beta hydroxyl acid twice a day because they are often considered the best as they are slightly acidic, hence, prevent the skin from being vulnerable to bacteria. Don’t pick, pop or squeeze spots, they prolong healing time. Use product labelled as “non comedogenic” as they tend not to clog pores. Moisturize your skin because oily skin can be dehydrated and oil-free moisturizer can keep healthy. Use blotting papers to soak up excess oil. Apply an oil-free, mineral powder make up base for the daytime. Use prescription strength topical treatment if over the counter tropicals are not helping your oily skin e.g. tretinoin and use according to prescription. For serious acne, take accutane, a prescription oral medication. Do not try to remove all the oil from your face as the oil is there to protect the skin from premature aging.
Make sure you investigate any products or treatments before putting them on your face because everyone’s skin is different. Carefully follow instructions for tropical treatments. Many products are effective in the right dosages but harmful if applied too much.
Be very consistent with your skin regimen. Do not retire for the night without doing your procedure. Your skin is very active during sleep. It repairs itself and produces new cells at a faster rate than when we are awake.
Learn to love your complexion, select the best skin care products and avoid worst ingredients to control and treat your skin type.

Facial treatment for acne and blackheads

I want to be prim and proper, so said the unilag babe. Am tired of all these pimples and black head. Everything is wrong with my face. OMG!!! What do i do now?
Babe, calm down and listen. You will be prim and proper but then it’s a process. Do you have a face wash? Do you have a facial scrub? Do you have a face cleanser? If no, you need all these and if yes, how do you use them?
4 steps involved: wash, scrub, clean and apply.
Wash your face twice each day in order to keep your skin clear. Avoid using bar soaps to clean your face as they will dry it out and are not pH balanced. Use lukewarm water to wash. You wash your face to remove dirt and sebum but without disturbing the skin’s natural moisture barrier. Face washes remain the best. Face is the mirror of the body. To maintain face hygiene, face washes have an important role to play. Choose judiciously.
After washing, scrub with a facial scrub. Face scrub is an exfoliation product which has been designed specifically for use on the face. Do not use generic scrub but face scrub because the face is more delicate than skin on other parts of the body and some of them may be too harsh for use on the face. Scrubs work by removing dead skin, leaving behind a layer of younger, healthier skin behind. Regular use of an exfoliant can keep skin smooth and glowing by constantly expressing new skin. Many scrub also include moisturizers so they nourish the skin while removing dead skin. A number of things can be used as an exfoliant in a face scrub e.g groundnut shells, bamboo fibres, oatmeal, sugar and fruit pulp. You can apply by hand or cosmetics pad, either ways, rub gently.
Facial scrub is used for both acne and wrinkles. It allows cream, facial and acne treatment more effective by allowing it to penetrate skin cells easier instead of being wasted on the dead cells that can block absorption. Do not use face scrub too often as they can leave the skin feeling tight and absolutely worst case, thin the skin. For the first week use facial scrub everyday and thereafter, use thrice a week.
After scrubbing, clean with a face cleanser. Face cleanser helps keep the skin clean by removing dirt, sweat, excess sebum, bacteria and any other pollutant. Face wash and face cleanser will do the same but you use face wash before scrubbing and face cleanser after scrubbing.
Apply acne cream once a day preferably at night after using the cleanser. Acne cream like tretinoin cream(retin A cream) can be used. Tretinoin cream is a form of vitamin A used for tropical treatment of acne vulgaris. Another cream that can be used for acne treatment is benzoyl periode marketed under the brand name clearzit, clearex 10, oxy 10 etc. Both tretinoin and benzoyl perioxide cream can be used concurrently but not mixed together.
These are basically what you need to do to control your acne and blackhead but wait a minute, you don’t just use any product on your skin in the name of ‘i want to look good’, you might end up hurting yourself. Before you get any skin product, know your skin type. Do you know your skin type? Watch out for the various skin types we have and the best skin product you can use on them.

Week 1 games of the EPL

After the first set of matches, our spotlight is upon the first seven
teams of last season English Premier League, taking a look at the kind of results they churned out. Knowing fully well that we can have only one of these three forms of outcome: a win, a draw and a loss. These were their results.
Man United 1 Tottenham 0
Chelsea 2 Swansea 2
Stoke City 0 Liverpool 1
Arsenal 0 West Ham 2
Newcastle 2 Southampton 2
Man City 3 West Brom  0.
Going by the order of results, Man City were the biggest winner in the
top seven. Though the likes of Man United and Liverpool also got the
maximum three points, the goals difference of  3 for City as against  1
for both United and Liverpool. Arsenal's -2 goals difference as
against Tottenham's -1, makes them the biggest loser of week 1 games
in the EPL.
Though it is early days, much is expected of teams like Southampton, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal. These type of results could have a way of determining the season.

World Breastfeeding Week 2015: Working women and breastfeeding

World breastfeeding week is celebrated every year from 1st to 7th of August to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies around the world. Breastfeeding is the best way to provide infants with the nutrients they need.
Breast milk is the primary source of nutrition for newborns before they are able to eat and digest other foods; older infants and toddlers may continue to be breastfed, either exclusively or in combination with other foods from around 6 months of age when solid foods may be introduced.
There is no commercial formula that can equal breast milk. Breast milk provides minerals, vitamins, hormones, digestive enzymes, 0.9% protein, 4.5% fat and 7.1% carbohydrate(mainly as lactulose). It also contain antibodies from the mother that help the baby resist infections.
Women produce milk after child birth to feed the baby under the influence of the hormones, oxytocin and prolactin. The initial milk produced is known as colostrum which is high in immunoglobulin A (igA), which coats the gastrointestinal tract. It helps to protect the new born until it own immune system is functioning properly. It also create a mild laxative effect, expelling meconium and helping to prevent the build up of bilirubin which is a contributing factor in jaundice. Colostrum gradually change to become mature milk. Amount of milk produced depends on how often the mother is pumping, the more the mother pumps, the more milk is produced.
Breastfeeding offers health benefits to both mother and child.
For mothers, it assists the mother in returning to her pre-pregnancy weight, assists the uterus in returning to its pre-pregnancy size, it reduces the risk of postpartum bleeding, postpartum depression, breast and ovarian cancer and it is a natural method of birth control.
For the child, it increases intelligence, decreases likelihood of contracting middle ear infections, decreases dental problems, eczema and risk of asthma, obesity, psychological disorders and sudden infant death syndrome, it protects infants from common childhood illnesses such as diarrhoea, pneumonia, cold and flu.
In addition to providing essential nourishment to infants, it is used as a home remedy for minor ailments such as conjunctivitis, insect bites and stings, infected wounds, burns and abrasions and contact dermatitis.
The World Health Organisation recommends exclusive breastfeeding starting within one hour after birth until a baby is 6 months old. Nutritious supplement should then be added while continuing to breastfeed for up to 2 years.
Many mothers who return to work abandon breastfeeding because they do not have sufficient time or a place to breastfeed. Mothers need a safe, clean and private place in or near their work place to continue breastfeeding. Whether a woman is working in the formal or non-formal setting, it is necessary that she is empowered in claiming her and her baby’s right to breastfeed.
Breastfeeding should be on demand as often as the child want day and night, bottles and pacifiers should be avoided.
Breast milk has the perfect combination of proteins, fats, carbohydrates and vitamins. There is nothing better for the health of your baby.
Today marks the end of world breastfeeding week 2015. Breastfeeding and work. Let’s make it work!!!

Sunday 2 August 2015

Curtain raiser

After a long wait for a new season, it is now upon us. The excitement
is here again with the best of footballing games, coming from
different countries in Europe.
The pre-season games have given the teams match fitness and help
discover some weaknesses or lapses in teams. While the transfer market is still open till the second day in September, players can still be signed to cover those areas, and fit in, into coaches philosophies.
The DFB-Supercup was won by Wolfsburg, after they defeated the league champions (Bayern Munich) on penalty shoot out, to kick start the German Bundesliga season.
PSG also defeated Lyon in the Trophee des Champions. Two nil was the scoreline to claim their third consecutive trophy, ushering the
League 1 season.
In England, the FA Community Shield will be coming up today at Wembley stadium. Arsenal and Chelsea would be clashing for the fourteenth time under Jose Mourinho, and his Arsenal counterpart, Arsene Wenger has
never tasted victory in any of their meetings. The two managers are
known for the jibes they often throw at each other, and the scenario
that played out at Stanford Bridge last season when Chelsea hosted
Arsenal.
On the pitch, the two sides have added to their squads. Arsenal have
signed the ex-Chelsea goalkeeper (Cech), and would be expected to
start against his former employers, while Chelsea have replaced the
departed keeper with Begovic from Stoke City and Drogba with Falcao.
Arsenal would have to do with Alexis Sanches, while Chelsea would also
consider resting Cahill and Costa due to injuries.
Would Wenger gets his first win over Mourinho, or would it be Mourinho
extending his lead.
